What I''m doing

I was asked to share this information with you all. So, here's what I'm doing in a short plain version.
We are make antibodies against Toll-Like Receptors (TLRs), a family of surface receptors that recognize pathogen pattern molecules and therefore serve as the first line of defensive and connection of innate and adaptive immunties. By artificially stimulate or inhibit TLR functions, we may be able to modify immune response and therefore enhance protection or releive from over-reaction. That's why we are trying to make antibodies that serve as an agonist or antagonist for TLRs. We used modified phage-displayed single-chain antibody system ( see Amersham, they have a whole kit) to generate several anti-TLR antibody clones.
Sounds easy? I thought so too. But it turns out that TLRs are very weird proteins and we need to do many modifications in the procedures to get an antibody that can bind to them. We got some antibodies clones now, but still working on functional effects of these antibodies.
