Denmark's biotechnology industry.. The Wall Street Journal

First of all, does anyone have subscription to the Wall Street Journal? I saw the article today on the newspaper but got no access to the online version..

Anyways, the free preview link is here.

At this time the major US and UK based pharmaceutical companies are running on risks of patents getting expired and more threats from generic competetors. The biggies therefore are trying out reaching small companies, with strong R&D departments, for fresh products to keep their positions on the market.

Partnerships have been formed (please see the WSJ article), and Danish biotech companies are at the biggies' interests.

but WHY? According to the WSJ, Danish biotech companies have more resource and are more focused on specific areas (e.g. the CNS system treatments) than the ones in other European countries. Moreover, Denmark's concentration on development of the "Medicon Valley" has made more venture capitalists willing to invest in Denmark than anywhere else.

The stocks are continuetly going up as well.. hmm.. the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in this sector has gone up 80% last year(!!). Again, thanks to the prosperity of Medicon Valley.

Apparently Denmark looked very good in 2006, and will continue to grow in biotech industry in 2007.
